M2M SUPER SESSION: A MONSTER APP MARKET BECKONS
From Wikipedia: M2M (Machine-To-Machine): M2M uses a device (such as a sensor or meter) to capture an event (such as temperature, inventory level, etc.), which is relayed through a network (wireless, wired or hybrid) to an application (software program), that translates the captured event into meaningful information (for example, items need to be restocked). Modern M2M communication has expanded beyond a one-to-one connection and changed into a system of networks that transmits data to personal appliances.
We started with this definition as there seems to be a wide range of opinions about the modern definition of “M2M”. Sometimes referred to as the “Internet of Things”, we see the M2M market as a massive, global juggernaut of an ecosystem and application marketplace that is just forming. Whether you believe human interaction is part of M2M or it’s just abut machines talking to machines via applications, the bottom line is that literally billions of applications will be written to communicate mission-critical data and information between potentially tens of billions of connected devices in the coming years.
