APPNATION WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION
WELCOME & INTRODUCTION: APPNATION SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT WITH CODENOW
Please join us as we kick of APPNATION IV with an announcement about our new partnership with CodeNow, an incredible organization that we are very confident you will want to hear from and learn more about. We are pleased to welcome Ryan Seashore, the Founder and Executive Director of CodeNow to the APPNATION stage for a very special announcement and presentation.
APPNATION FEATURE INTERVIEW: GUS HUNT, CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY (CIA)
APPNATION is thrilled and honored to welcome one of the most exciting and highly-anticipated keynote speakers we have ever had — Gus Hunt, the Chief Technology Officer of The CIA. Mr. Hunt will be interviewed by long-time Valley executive and entrepreneur Michael Pliner, who was, among other things, the CEO at Verity.
While we typically do not think of government organizations and institutions as cutting-edge technology innovators, The CIA, led by Mr. Hunt’s technology vision and enabled by emerging mobile and connected devices and (a very) secure cloud, bucks this trend and is blazing a trail of innovation as it prepares to engage in a new global battlefield defined by the strategic need for pervasive mobility, ultra-secure private clouds and connected devices, mass analytics, and the development and deployment of proprietary apps that deliver a “desktop in context” to agents in the field.
Yeah, this is pretty darn cool!
FEATURE PRESENTATION FROM GOOGLE ANALYTICS: METRICS FOR SUCCESS IN THE MOBILE / APPS ECOSYSTEM
Apps do not exist in the abstract. As users discover, download, and use your apps, native or web-based, understanding who your customers are and what they are doing with your app(s) is incredibly important and has a direct impact on monetization. In short, your ability to drive maximum value from your app only starts after the download. Leveraging smart analytics and analyzing key behavioral and demographic metrics can drive future monetization and new app discovery efforts and empowers you to simply become a smarter and more effective app developer. APPNATION is pleased to welcome Adam Singer, Product Marketing Manager at Google Analytics to the stage to share his thoughts on how you should focus on key metrics and leverage analytics and reporting to build better apps, understand your customer better, and make more money.
INTRODUCTION BY: DREW IANNI, PRESIDENT AND EVENT CHAIRMAN, APPNATION
FEATURE PRESENTATION: ADAM SINGER, PRODUCT MARKETING MANAGER, GOOGLE ANALYTICS
10 GOOD MINUTES WITH MITCHELL WEISMAN: UNLEASHING THE POTENTIAL OF THE APP ECONOMY
The app economy is on a tear. eMarketer expects global ad spending to hit $25 billion within four years, and the IAB reports that US mobile ad revenues are growing 90% year-over-year. Heavy adoption of mobile devices is driving much of this growth, as is heavy app usage across mobile and web platforms. As the market expands, app monetization is expanding with it. Analytics firm App Annie found that freemium app revenue has quadrupled over the last two years. As we work to realize the full potential of the app economy, what are some key factors we need to consider? Join digital advertising pioneer and former VC Mitchell Weisman as he explores how new technologies are enabling us to approach decades-old challenges in new ways, and how taking a granular approach to everything we do, from customer acquisition to ad measurement, can enable us to unleash the market potential in front of us.

WELCOME TO THUNDERDOME! NATIVE APPS VS HTML 5 / MOBILE WEB (Presented by AllThingsD)
Apps are dead! The mobile web is the future!
Errr….Wait a minute! We mean HTML5 is cool and may be the future — but native apps are still where it’s at!
And the pendulum shifts once again.
Here at APPNATION — since starting this conference series over two years ago — we have learned one universal truth as we track the development of the app economy: The native app vs mobile web debate will not go away and we will continue to see future pendulum shifts away and back towards HMTL5 as the uber development platform of the future. While the industry pundits and those with vested interests scream about “winner take all” scenarios, we thought we’d bring together a group of leading companies that have to make the real-world and very significant (read: expensive and time consuming) native app vs mobile web platform development and investment decisions. And we are thrilled to have the engaging Ina Fried from AllThingsD back to lead this always popular APPNATION feature session.

M2M SUPER SESSION: A MONSTER APP MARKET BECKONS
From Wikipedia: M2M (Machine-To-Machine): M2M uses a device (such as a sensor or meter) to capture an event (such as temperature, inventory level, etc.), which is relayed through a network (wireless, wired or hybrid) to an application (software program), that translates the captured event into meaningful information (for example, items need to be restocked). Modern M2M communication has expanded beyond a one-to-one connection and changed into a system of networks that transmits data to personal appliances.
We started with this definition as there seems to be a wide range of opinions about the modern definition of “M2M”. Sometimes referred to as the “Internet of Things”, we see the M2M market as a massive, global juggernaut of an ecosystem and application marketplace that is just forming. Whether you believe human interaction is part of M2M or it’s just abut machines talking to machines via applications, the bottom line is that literally billions of applications will be written to communicate mission-critical data and information between potentially tens of billions of connected devices in the coming years.
Come get a super-sized primer on the evolving M2M market including a brief history, where we are today, and sage advice and prognostications on exactly how, and when, this ecosystem will start to blossom here in the U.S. and around the world.

MASTERS OF MONETIZATION (Presented by The IAB)
More than 50% of Americans now own smartphones and Forrester predicts that annual tablet sales in the US will exceed 50 million by 2015. Emerging connected platforms continue to offer app developers of all sizes and advertisers, and their agency partners, a new opportunity to engage with viewers and consumers in a uniquely compelling way, but some hurdles remain and the industry as a whole continues to look for ways to drive more dollars to the broader app and mobile economies and advertising marketplaces. How are leading apps and content companies monetizing their mobile content offerings via subscription-based, ad-supported, and freemium monetization and how does the buy-side view these emerging platforms as vehicles to drive brand preference, consumer engagement, and customer acquisition. APPNATION is pleased to once again partner with the IAB and to welcome back Anna Bager, GM of Mobile at the IAB, to the APPNATION stage to lead this engaging session.

Welcome to the HYPERNET!
APPNATION and Bloomberg are pleased to welcome one of Silicon Valley’s leading lights and investors, Mike Maples, who, along with Roger McNamee of Elevation Partners, believes we are in the middle of the next prolific technology “gathering wave” — as we move into the post-social-and-mobile world — which is comprised of a new infrastructure that combines the web plus cellular plus WiFi (the Hypernet) combined with new user experiences enabled by billions of connected devices and millions of clouds (the Hyperweb).
Come hear why some of today’s leading companies may ultimately be road kill and how HTML5 and the emerging Hyperweb will transform the digital landscape as we know it and create the next trillion dollar industries and billion-dollar companies and marketplaces.

ENTERPRISE OPENING KEYNOTE: A CONVERSATION WITH IBM
The Enterprise is undergoing a fundamental transformation. The cloud has become accepted and is powering and enabling a whole new generation of applications and it appears a full virtualization, layer-by-layer, of the stack is underway. Smartphones, tablets, and apps are appearing everywhere in small and large businesses, alike, across virtually every major industry vertical. Consumers, this time in their role as employee, are increasingly wielding their power as they demand BYOD-friendly policies and “consumer grade — enterprise ready” apps in the workplace. And, despite its massive size, IBM continues to be on the forefront of innovation and providing cutting-edge enterprise mobility service and solutions to clients across the world. APPNATION is pleased to welcome Phil Buckellew, the Vice President for Enterprise Mobile at IBM to talk about the brave new world of the “new enterprise” and how enterprise mobility and BYOD will continue to transform all businesses, the broader I.T infastructure, and every company’s relationships with their customers, channel partners, and employees

The Internet of Things and the mission-critical applications developed to enable this connected world, generate a need for actionable, real-time business intelligence, driven by the confluence of three core technologies — big data, mobile and cloud. In this hyper-connected, application-driven world we’ll consider the scope of what can be mobilized and how enterprises can embrace it. .

ENTERPRISE KEYNOTE ROUNDTABLE: MEET THE INNOVATORS
Contrary to popular belief, the CIO and CTO are not being replaced or marginalized by the cloud. In fact, you could argue that their expertise and corporate influence have never been so critically important as the entire stack is deconstructed. BUT their job descriptions and requirements are certainly evolving – fast – and they also have to be vigilant across their own enterprises as business-line managers across all functions of the enterprise are charging ahead and building just-in-time, highly relevant and customized b-to-b apps and enterprise mobility solutions to serve the specific needs of their business unit and customers. Join enterprise mobility maven Maribel Lopez of Lopez Research and a panel of cutting-edge, take-no-prisoners innovators and disruptors who helping de-construct the stack and I.T. as we know it and redefining how business is done in an increasingly mobile, highly-contextual, just-in-time world.

DISCOVERABILITY WORKSHOP, PART II: APP STORE OPTIMIZATION STRATEGIES (Presented by WIP)
Apple’s App Store and Google Play continue to drive the majority of app discovery although, according to the Wireless Industry Protocol, there are still over 50 active app stores around the globe. What are some of the most effective app store optimization tactics being used by successful developers today? What can developers do at the design and coding stage to help drive algorithmic-based, app-store optimization and what can devs do post-launch once the app is ready to be discovered? 10 GOOD MINUTES: ON THE FRONT LINES WITH GENENTECH AND KIMBERLY-CLARK
As apps, BYOD, and the “Consumerization of IT” are all-the-rage in the enterprise, a few innovative, early-adopter companies have been quietly blazing the enterprise mobility trail. They already have their own app stores, have produced dozens of internal apps and have actually already retired some apps. In this session we go beyond the hyperbole and hype surrounding CoIT and talk with two young executives from Genentech and Kimberly Clark who are in the trenches building these apps and laying the foundation for future enterprise mobility solutions t and success at their respective organizations. Join us for a conversation with Christian Santiago, the mobile and HTML5 applications development lead and and Jonathan Boulos, the mobile security and network lead at Kimberly-Clark, for a frank, real-world discussion about life on the front lines of enterprise app development, deployment, and lifecycle management. ENTERPRISE SPOTLIGHT: BUILDING THE SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
“The Social Enterprise”. What exactly is the social enterprise? We assume your business has a Facebook page, a LinkedIn page, and a Twitter account — so does that make your company a social enterprise. If you’re company uses social platforms and apps such as Salesforce Chatter, Yammer, or Jive (or at least has any of these platforms deployed), does that make your company a social enterprise? This session looks beyond the social enterprise hype and explores how real-world companies are successfully implementing social media platforms and social-mobile (SOMO) applications to drive customer engagement and loyalty, increased employee satisfaction and productivity, and the bottom line. Building the social enterprise — the latest corporate fad or a must-have foundation for the modern-day enterprise?
SESSION LEADER: DAVID COLEMAN, SENIOR ANALYST, COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIES, INC.
BIG DATA SPOTLIGHT: BIG DATA IS DEAD! LONG LIVE SMART DATA!
Everybody is talking about “big data”. What you want to know is how are leading companies taking these mass quantities of desktop and mobile data and leveraging the cloud and big data apps to integrate and convert it into smart data that helps them create competitive market advantages, stronger customer relationships, and incremental revenue, margin, and profit growth. Big Data is Dead! Long Live Smart Data!

THE PLATFORM WARS: THE BATTLE FOR THE ENTERPRISE
The epic battle for share in the consumer mobile OS / platform market is now dominated by iOS and Android with all eyes now towards Microsoft to see if it can gain share with Windows 8 and Windows 8 Mobile amongst consumer tablet and smartphone buyers. And while the consumer market is massive, the enterprise market will ultimately dwarf the consumer market and the battle for mobile OS, platform, and hardware share in the enterprise has just begun with much more at stake. Across the enterprise, Apple dominates but the battle for #2, and the long-term battle for the top-spot, is a more complex and fluid engagement. Platform and hardware adoption amongst consumers will continue to influence adoption and market share in the enterprise but the correlation may not be as direct as conventional wisdom seems to dictate. While we may not know the final outcome, we do know this battle will be epic and it has just begun. Join Matt Rosoff, Editorial Director at IDG’s CITE World, and the key participants who will influence this battle for an engaging discussion and debate about The Platform Wars. Cue Tina Turner: Welcome To Thunderdome!

SPOTLIGHT KEYNOTE: THE MASTERS OF “MOBILE FIRST”
In the summer of 2011, for the first time, the average American spent more time engaged with mobile apps than they did browsing the web and this gap continues to widen. Second only to the television, the mobile phone has become the most accessed device and platform (in terms of “time spent”) and this has enabled, and is requiring, large and small companies alike to increasingly re-engineer and position their companies and products as “mobile-first”.
From innovative mobile app pure-plays to large media companies that must pivot to embrace a mobile-first philosophy, this high-caliber roundtable brings together Raj Kapoor of Mayfield Fund, one of Silicon Valley’s leading investors, and leading executives from cutting-edge, disruptive companies such as Hotel Tonight, WAZE, and Lyft that are embracing a mobile-first approach and philosophy.

- JOHN ZIMMER, CO-FOUNDER AND COO, LYFT
BIG MEDIA SPOTLIGHT: MOBILE-FIRST REENGINEERING (Presented by The OPA)
A majority of consumers, including most consumers under the age of 34, are engaging with their smartphones (and increasingly tablets) more than any other media or communications device in their lives — televisions included. The publishing industry has long been worried about the broader switch to digital from a consumption point-of-view but now the pressure seems to only be increasing as consumption moves even more swiftly to mobile, a seemingly more difficult platform to monetize. We are proud to partner with Online Publishers Association and welcome OPA President, Pam Horan, to our stage to lead an engaging discussion with two of the media industry’s leading lights and innovators from two of our national publishing powerhouses — Gannett (Publisher of USA Today and 82 local newspapers) and Time Inc (Publisher of: Time, Fortune, People, Sports Illustrated, InStyle, and many more.)
SESSION LEADER: PAM HORAN, PRESIDENT, THE ONLINE PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION
CRM 3.0: HOW APPS, MOBILITY AND THE CLOUD ARE TRANSFORMING CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Simply adding a social media “component” to your CRM strategy is not “CRM 3.0″. Apps, enterprise mobility, and a whole host of emerging software and communications applications and solutions are fundamentally transforming the broader relationship between business and customer. From social platforms that enhance communications between a business and its customer and a business and its employees to emerging, just-in-time and contextual database and information management solutions that can give sales and marketing employees a competitive edge and drive lifetime customer value, CRM 3.0 has arrived. Hear from current leading practitioners of CRM 3.0 and where things are headed in 2013 and beyond.

FOLLOW THE MONEY, PART I: THE APPNATION BRAND / AGENCY ROUNDTABLE
Subscription, freemium or ad-supported? It’s the business model question thousands of entrepreneurs have struggled and experimented with going back to the old Internet 1.0 days. Remember the old Wall Street Journal vs New York Times “free vs paid” debate. This is not new, kids.
Here at APPNATION, our whole reason for being is to help you monetize and we always bring the money to you as we have, once again, in this session where we are thrilled to welcome a group of advertising executives whose brands and agencies, collectively, spend over $10B a year in marketing and advertising.
If you want real-world, mega-buyer advice and insights into how you can drive and attract (more) marketing dollars to your app or mobile business, then don’t miss this session.

APPNATION is thrilled to partner with the highly-regarded Bay Area digital music leader Brian Zisk and his SF MusicTech Summit to feature a group of leading-edge startups and disruptors playing in the increasingly vibrant and innovative digital and mobile music scene. While companies like Spotify and Google look to take on iTunes directly, there is a whole host of amazing companies across the music industry pushing new and innovative mobile products and services forward aimed at music consumers, artists, retailers and labels. San Francisco has always been a hot-bed for the digital, and now mobile, music scene and as the guru of this scene, Brian Zisk sums it up nicely in saying that “the level of excitement and pace of innovation surrounding the digital music scene have never been greater”. We agree.
SESSION LEADER: BRIAN ZISK, FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SF MUSICTECH SUMMIT
MASTER CLASS: BUILDING AND MANAGING GREAT ENTERPRISE APPS
We recently heard a cool, new phrase out there from a major enterprise software vendor that was talking about how they wanted their mobile apps and enterprise solutions to be “consumer grade – enterprise ready”. We think this is a much more interesting way of describing what’s behind the “Consumerization of IT” revolution as it relates to app development. As IT and business-line managers wake-up to the fact that their customer, channel partners, and employees are increasingly “prosumers” with “consumer-grade” expectations of their apps and devices at work, unique development, deployment, and app management considerations are now de-riguer for enterprise app development. Come hear from leading enterprise app developers and solutions providers about how they are building, deploying, and managing killer apps and enterprise mobility solutions.

Twice as many American game-players play games on their phones vs consoles and the majority share of total game playing time is now on phones and tablets — not consoles. The console gaming industry is certainly not dead and it is certainly fair to ask whether the mobile gaming market has reached saturation but those facts do not minimize the mega-shift happening in the gaming industry from console-to-mobile — not to mention that Gamer Nation is truly global. So what will 2013 bring to Gamer Nation? Will we see more global consolidation and acquisitions across the mobile gaming market? How will the major console platforms and software / entertainment companies evolve their platforms, titles, and businesses to take advantage of the mobile / app gaming revolution? Will gaming on tablets and even connected TVs spur-on additional growth? And how are US-based gaming app developers driving discoverability and monetization in an increasingly crowded market.

SO MANY PLATFORMS, SO LITTLE TIME: MASTERING CROSS-PLATFORM DEVELOPMENT AND MONETIZATION
From smartphones and tablets to connected TVs to gaming platforms and connected cars, content and commerce companies are now faced with a myriad of distribution options. “Content everywhere”, so it seems, is the requirement of the day. But is it actually possible? Can even the largest companies with significant development resources afford to put their content across every digital device and platform? Or should they? Will the mobile web ultimately replace or complement native app platforms? Will tablets ultimately reach a mass market audience and what impact will that have on media distribution and advertising? Will Connected TVs and emerging over-the-top (OTT) platforms fundamentally impact and disrupt television and its long-standing business model or will they actually enhance and expand the television industry as we know it? And where will advertising fit into this increasingly on-demand world? APPNATION is pleased to welcome this group of pioneering multi-platform experts to talk about their experiences and emerging strategic priorities as the platform and device landscape continues to expand.
ENTERPRISE APP DISCOVERY DEEP-DIVE: ENTERPRISE APP STORES
Apple’s App Store and Google Play continue to dominate app discovery and distribution across the consumer app landscape but enterprise app developers are faced with a dizzying array of potential app stores and distribution options including the App Store and Play as well as a wide range of proprietary platform and company-specific app stores (most internally-curated to some degree) and white-label app stores. This deep-dive session will offer a top-line assessment of the broader enterprise app store landscape and dig-in with some enterprise app developers who have experience distributing their apps across a range of enterprise app stores — and will find out if any app-store optimization best practices have emerged specifically for enterprise apps.
FOLLOW THE MONEY, PART II: ANALYZING THE APP ECONOMY
That venerable “Are We In A Bubble?” parlor game has returned to Silicon Valley and other digital and mobile hotbeds around the world as we, once again, are witness to increasingly lofty valuations, billion-dollar overnight sensations, a new crop of “Valley darlings”, and rampant IPO and M&A speculation. This always-engaging session, orchestrated by the highly-regarded Ari Levy of Bloomberg, assembles a diverse group of investors, analysts, and deal makers to offer their perspectives on the state of the broader app and mobile economy and their predictions for 2013.

What can enterprise and b-to-b app developers learn from the masters of gamification? When is it appropriate, and advantageous, to use in the context of business-to-business applications and emerging mobile solutions when might it not make sense? Learn from the game theory mavens who cut their teeth on the consumer side as well as from innovative enterprise and b-to-b players who have had early success with infusing game theory into the arena of enterprise mobility.

Spending on local advertising and marketing now exceeds $150B (yes, that’s Billion with a “B”) and while local TV, local newspaper advertising, and the Yellow Pages still receive the lion’s share of these dollars, the mobile revolution is fundamentally changing the way consumers interact with their local communities, merchants, and friends (i.e. word-of-mouth recipients). NATIVE APP vs MOBILE WEB IN THE ENTERPRISE
At APPNATION IV, we have carved out a native app vs mobile web session for both our consumer and enterprise tracks as the debate rages on across both consumer and enterprise but there are also unique considerations for businesses when considering whether to develop native apps, in HTML 5 / for the mobile web, or hybrid apps. Security, of course, remains a top concern for many businesses and, for tablet-based mobile solutions, almost 3/4 of businesses are using iPads and utilizing Apple / iOS / iPad brings along its own unique influences when considering native app or mobile web development. This session brings together a range of perspectives on this perpetually debatable issue which is even more of a hot-topic now as Microsoft seriously enters the fray with Windows 8 and Windows 8 Mobile.

MOBILE MONEYBALL: LEVERAGING PERSONALIZED CONTENT TO DRIVE PREMIUM MONETIZATION
Experts project that by 2015 there will be more than 7 billion mobile devices globally. With the explosion of mobile devices, understanding how users interact with your applications or services is a critical component to your mobile strategy and driving mobile usage. The ability to collect vast amounts of user data—often of the scale of Big Data, especially in mobile–and analyze it across platforms and applications gives companies the opportunity to more effectively drive monetization and build data-driven competitive advantages. Effective monetization requires insight into preferences and purchases, combined with behavior, location and time-of-day. As the number of ways customers interact with mobile apps grows, so do the possibilities. Get advice from companies who’ve implemented end-to-end analytics across a variety of platforms to learn the best ways to leverage data and drive monetization.
EMPOWERING THE CITIZEN DEVELOPER
Sidestep the current CoIT standoff among employees, IT, and management by providing a sandbox that everyone can play in. This session will outline a novel approach to blending social, mobile collaboration technology with the inevitable need of employees to customize the tools they use and how companies are leveraging open APIs and internal platforms and tools to engage with, and reap benefits from, internal and external “citizen developers”. Kasper Hulthin, co-creator of Podio, and now Head of User Engagement at Citrix Online will lead a session of other industry innovators who are empowering “citizen developers” within their own organizations and across their broader partner and customer ecosystems and get actionable advice on how you can integrate, rather than battle, employee empowerment.
