Marketers and ad-tech providers have forgotten to treat consumers like individuals, losing the chance to meaningfully engage with their interests. Consumers are bombarded with various mobile ad formats forcing them to reconsider where and how they consume their media. As a result publishers are challenged to financially support their content creation. In this presentation John Ruhlen from PubNative will illustrate how native as a monetization solution provides a meaningful way to engage consumers. Key take-aways:

  • Native advertising preserves or even enhances the user experience within a mobile app
  • Pleasant user experience attracts and retains quality users and fosters genuine engagement
  • Brands spend advertising budgets to advertise on mobile if the ads through which they are represented are not intrusive, disruptive or low quality (i.e., spend budgets on native ads)
  • Performance of native ads compared to traditional ad formats such as banners is up to 4 times better

MASTERS OF MONETIZATION, PART II: THE STATE OF IN-APP ADVERTISING

an7-speaker-image-Jeremy-Lockhorn an7-speaker-image-Rachel-Pasqua  an7-speaker-image-James-Kelm  an6-array-image-Ken-WillnerGartner said it expects global mobile advertising spending to reach $18 billion this year growing to $41.9 Billion by 2017. According to Gartner’s report, this growth will be “fuelled by improved market conditions — citing provider consolidation, measurement standardization and new targeting technologies as likely areas helping to underpin and bolster the market”.   With a vast majority of mobile users spending time in-app vs on the mobile web and with no credible indication that HTML5 / the mobile web is gaining added traction with consumers, the majority of the estimated $42B in mobile ad spending by 2017 is expected to be “in-app”.  That’s a big numbers and this diverse set of buyers, sellers, and intermediaries from across the mobile advertising ecosystem will share more about the growth opportunities and how app developers and publishers can maximize their ad-supported revenues.

The key to success is visibility. This is not cheap. The cost to advertise and promote your creation is getting increasingly more expensive in a congested universe.  an7-speaker-image-John-Piccone  an7-speaker-image-Brandon-Albers  an7-speaker-image-Ashwin-Navin  an7-speaker-image-Rob-Gelick

It is often mentioned that we have entered a new “golden age” of television and, while this sentiment may be driven primarily by the quality of television content today, one could argue that the array of new broadcast, narrowcast, and emerging distribution platforms is also contributing to this new golden age.  Major broadcast and cable networks are creating a la carte subscription services, TV providers are increasingly worried about cord-cutters and are talking about “skinny bundles”, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu continue to innovate and thrive, and Apple has recently won rave reviews for it’s latest release of Apple TV which now features a robust app store.  So how will this inevitable disruption of the television industry impact the app economy and app developers?  Where do connected TVs fall into this disruption mix and will connected TVs and / or other platforms and devices serve as scalable distribution platforms for app developers. And how are leading networks and content owners and distributions looking at apps as a direct-to-consumer (e.g over-the-top) distribution and advertising (?) platform?  And is there an current or evolving business case to develop independent “tv apps”.
